ARBITRATION COURT
MARINE ENGINEERS' DISPUTE. Tho hearing of tho application of the Auetralasian Institute of Marino Engineers to have tho steamers Regulus and Calm, of tho Canterbury Shipping Company, brought under tho award governing tho vessels of tho _ Union Steam Ship Company's vessels, instead of tho award covering smaller vessels, was continued yesterday in the Arbitration. Court, when Mr. Justice Stringer presided, and with him were Mr. W. Scott, employers' representative, and Mr. J. A. M'Cullough, reprtisenting the workers. Mr. W. Pi-yor appeared for the ownore of tho two small vessels, and Mr. T. R. Wallace represented the Engineers' Institute. When the caso was before tho Court on Monday Mr. Wallace gave reasons why tho vessels should be brought under tho more important award:
Yesterday, Mr. Pryor addressed the Court on behalf of the owners, and called Captain H. Munro,. director of tho Canterbury Steam Ship Company, who detailed the nature of tho work dono by the engineers on board the company's vessels tho Storm, Breeze, and Calm, and also on the steamer Regulus. On the Calm and Regulus tho engineers had not so much extra work to do, as the vessels carried a greater complement of firemen and greasers than the other two vessels, ou which the engineer!! had to do the greasing, in addition to their ordinary work. Tho engineers on the company's boats were frequently transferred from ono vessel fo another.
Mr. Pryor briefly addressed tho Court, and stated that in the private conference between tho parties the owners stipulated that the Regulus and Calm should be included in the award.
Mr. T. R. Wallace stated that tho engineers had protested against tho vessels named being included, and sairl that tho Rogulus and Calm had been the stumbling block throughout tho engineers' dispute.
