TRIAL OF THE ACCUSED CONSPIRATORS
CASE FOR THE CROWN
London, March 6. The trial of the four conspirators against the life- of Mr. Lloyd George aud Mr. Arthur Henderson has opened in the Old Bailey before Mr. Justice Low. It is probable- tliat the trial will last several days. 'All the accused pleaded not guilty. Sir l\ E. Smith (Attorney-General) submitted that the prisoners were a dosperato body of people, who were bitterly hostile to this country, and who sheltered fueitives from tho army. I hey had done their best to injure tiroat Britain in the war crisis. Discussing tho motive which had led people of the middlo class, of good educato such moral degeneracy, ho said tho jury would probably infer, firstly, the prisoners' intense and unreasoning hatred of their countrv, -which was shocking; secondly, .their hatred ol tho measures necessitated by the war. and their profound dislike of pulsion; and, thirdly,, their hatred of statesmen whose duty it was to recommend such measures.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

They we're Mrs. Alice Wheeldou and her two daughters, Harriet Wheeldori and Mrs. Winifred Mason' (all suffraKctl.es), and Mrs. Mason's husband, Alfred Mason, who -was a conscientious objector. Tho accused wero allezed to have planned to use poisoned darts and needles, poisons in their possession being strychnine liydroclilorido and curaro.]
