MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE CASES,
Mr. L. G. lloid, S.M., presided over the police cases in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. Mary Burgoyne, who had been found helplessly drank in Tinakori Road, was ordered to pay medical expenses, incurred through her lapse. Thomas 0 Brien, alias Ryan, was sentenced to ■18 hours' detention for insobrioty. A charge against Joseph Weakos of being found in a state of helpless drmikonness was adjourned' till to-day. violet May Pointon, a young woman, charged with possessing insufficient lawful means of support, was sent to the Salvation Army Home.
Arthur Duncan, tho aggressor in a street fight, was convicted of breaking the peace, and was fined 10s., with tho alternative of spending throe days in gaol. A charge against Ernest Neshitt, the other party concerned, was dismissed.
Henry Allen, n boatswain, who Tiad belaboured on able seaman with a piece of w r ood, appeared on a charge, of common assault. Tho ovidenco showed that tho seaman assaulted, had aroused tho resentment of the defendant by interfering when tho latter was engaged in fighting another member of tho crew. Defendant went afterwards to tho hunk where Nicholas Dounley. the comnlainant, was lying, and lie knocked Dounley about considerably. "This was rather a cowardly affair, oven making every allowance for the defendant's being drunk," commented His Worship. A fin© of £2 was inflicted, and defendant was ordered to nav expenses amounting to £1 lis. 6d. '
CIVIL CASES. JUDGMENT BY DEFAULT. Judgment by default of defendants was given for plaintiffs in tho following eases: —R. Hannah and Co., Ltd.. v. M. J. Burnet. £1 19s. 6d., and costs os.; Dominion College of Radiotelegraphy v. Charles Erie Pearson, £7 195., and £1 ,6s. . 6d:; British General Electric Co., Ltd.. v. Argylo Motor and Engineering Works, £1 IPs. 7d.. and 55.; Harry H. Tombs, Ltd., v. K. Vallnncc, £2 os.. and 10s.; John Edward Fitzgerald v. Francis Herbert Washbourne, £11 13s. 4d.. and 155.; H. Bodley and Sons v. Mrs. Mario Snens Black, £6- 17s. Id., and £1 ss. Gd.
OTHER CASES. In a judgment summons case Charles Henry Baker was ordered to pay the Donhard Automatic Baking Co., Ltd., £5 16s. by March 20, or serve fivo davs' imprisonment. H. Oscar Hewitt and Co. (in liquidation) _ claimed from Jano Foloy, a Maori interpreter, of Roterua, the sum of £8 155., balance duo on a sowing machine taken on a hire purchase contract. Judgment was for tho plaintiff for tho full amount, with costs. Mr. H. E. Anderson appeared for tho plaintiff, and Mr. W. C. Carter for the 'defendant.
