NOTES AND COMMENTS
IBt Glencoe.l Those owners who havo horses engaged at tho Opunako meeting bhouitd bear in mind the date of ho closing of acceptances, which is to-morrow. Entries for tho C.J.C.. Great Easter and Autumn Handicaps close on Friday night. ■ A reminder is given owners who intend racing their horses at Masterton next week that acceptances for the first day's baudicaps closo on Friday at 10 p.m. G. Clarke, who got a bad fall when Achi Baba crashed into a treo at Woodville, is now completely recovered, and will be riding at Napier this week. A horso -whose chances in the Napier Cup are being much discussed is Trials, who is in at tho minimum. The Tribulation, gelding -was noticed finishing on at tho right end of the Dannevirke Cup last -week. Sea Lord is now bearing a very fresh appearance, and if tho chestnut can get a soft track at Napier on Friday or Saturday he -will probably give a good account of limsolf in the open sprint events. Two well-known Hastings horsemen in H. Griffiths and A.' Tricklobank aro leaving with the next lot of v Reinforcements. Prior to leaving Hastings Mr. L. M'Kenzio, for whom Griffiths won many races, presented the lad with a gold wristlet watch. Locally Multificinl, Teka, and Llanishen aro the fancies for the Napier Cup, to be run on Friday. ' The first-named showed convincing; form at Gisborne, where he carried Sst. to victory, and with a rise of 121b ho finished second the following week. Teka. lias been carrying all before Trim, but has been carefully placed, albeit his form on the second day at Dannevirke -was Ml of merit, as ho was well back half a mile from home, and then went round the field on tho turn. Llanishen won a Welter Handicap at Trentham, but failed in the Summer Handicap, which contained the best class. Her fornviin the big mile hardly reads good enough, considering that Sedd-el-Bahr- and Beltane finished in front of her, and as far as could be seen the imported mure could liave no excuses made for her. .The well-known 'horseman, 11. E; Manson, is to bo married at Wellington this afternoon. Johnny Walkerj a maiden 3-TCiir-old by Martian—Hebrew Maid, is to Lave hi's itst race in tho Maiden. Hack event at Masterton next week. Ho will carry the colours of tho Messrs. Riddiford. ■Tho Nelson meeting will commence today, and be concluded to-morrow. Good fields are engaged in tho \arious events. In the Trial Stakes, Imaribbon, runnerup to Kiltess at Blenheim, may bo, favourite, with the Awapimi-trained May Morn next in demand. The last-named is expected to race well in the Telegraph Handicap later in the day. Imaribbon is also engaged in this event. Backers may make tho bracketed pair, Tango and Rose Pink, a good favourite in the Cup, in which tho latter .reads nicely treated in the light of 1 her best form. In the Hope Welter Handicap, Kukri may encounter' most opposition from Pall Mall. Tho last-named showed fair, form at Dannevirke, where she ra'r. second to Parisian Diamond on tho opening day and.'defeated Bairnsdale on the second day. , Goldstream sewns to have got • rid of tho soreness whbfe troubled him for a long time, and Jib may bo a pronounced order in the Newmarket Handicap, six f iiirlongs.
