TECHNICAL SCHOOL
MEETING OF THE BOARD.
Tho Wellington Technical Education Board met last evening. Mr. G. Frost? presided. It was decided, on the recommendation of Mr. T. Ballingor, to pay the instructor in plumbing '(Mr. H. W. Johnson) an annual allowance of £52 whilo ho is on active service.
A letter was received from the director of the Southland Technical School, in'which it was stated: —"The Southland Technical College' I'oard has requested the Minister of Education to modify slightly the syllabus for tho Public Service Entrance Examination, so as to permit the trade students (engineering and woodworking) attending the Technical High Schools to compete in tho examination on even terms with the candidates from high schools. This seems desirable, as numbers of trades students are entering the railway workshops, where preferment is given to candidates, who havo passed the Public Service Entrance Examination. Others could enter the Public Works Department and other Departments where cadets and apprentices with proved mechanical ability and somo preliminary twining are required." The board referred the letter to. its Education Committee.
