WAR MEDALS PRESENTED

CEREMONY AT TE KUJTI. By Telegraph—Press Association. x Te Kuiti, March 5. At a military parade at To Kuiti on Saturday 'evening a presentation of medals was made in the presence of over 300 Territorials and some 1000 residents. Sir James Allen, Minister of Defence, presented Mr. T. Frost, of Kelvin House, To Kuiti, with the French decoration, the Croix do Guerre, and the Distinguished Conduct Medal, awarded to the late Sergeant-Major Frost, who was killed in tlie Soninie offensive. The Minister gave a stirring address, and referred to tho Territorial system as the primary school at lyhich lessons were learned that enabled men to accomplish deeds similar to that to which they were assembled that evening -to do honour. It was a unique honour -for him to havo to present such distinguished medals, and while there was, a sad sido to the presentation, the lesson of self-sacrifice by the late officer was ono the nation as a wiiolc could profit by. The cereniony closed with tho local band playing the French National Anthem, "Rule, Britannia," and tho National Anthem. CEREMONY IN AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 5. Four medals won in tho field were presented j,6 Sir James Allen to-day. Three of the heroes had not lived to receive the medals, and in these cases the decorations were presented to the fathers. Lieut. Gavin D. Alexander, killed in action, gained the D.C.M., while a sergeant in the Divisional Signal Company. Ho was represented by his father, Mr. 15. H. Alexander, _ of Epsom. E. A. Bedggood, of Kaihu, was given the Military Medal, won by his son, Lce.-Corpl. W. W. C. Bedggood; and S. L. P. Rimmer, of Mt. Eden, received the Military Medal on behalf of his son, Sergt. W. C. Rimmcr. Gunner R. I. Fleming, of Devonport, was tho only one to personally receive the decoration of the Military Medal.
