When voluntary recruiting , foti this draft closed on' Saturday the shortage was 1501 men, and tho Government; Statistician was directed •to ; draw 4503 names from the roll of the First Division, thus allowing tho usual margin, for medical rejections, exemptions, etc. One district, the Bay of Plenty, had! provided a full quota Tjy voluntary enlistment, and did-not participate in tha ballot. North Canterbury, with, a quota, of 62 men, had failed to find a single voluntary recruit. ..
