THE CITY'S BURDEN
OUTSIDERS SEEKING WAR .RELIEF. , The Wellingtonians burden just now is tho person who comes to town from some other part of tho Dominion, and seeks war relief. A good number came from Auckland, and tho constitution of the Auckland. relief body prevents it from recompensing Wellington for the help given these northern people. Auckland says it will do the same for Wellington, but it is pointed out that not-many Wellington people go to Auckland. Tho matter was mentioned at yesterday's meeting of the Wellington War Relief Association. Mr. G. Shirtcliffe thought that an arrangement should be arrived at whereby relief could not be obtained from, the Wellington body, oxcept on the recommendation of the Auckland Society. M. L. 0. Hi Tripp said peoplo had been warned several times through the Press, but still they came and' dumped themselves in Wellington. Mr. Shirteliffc: It is taxing our funds quite unfairly.. ; There was some talk of drastic action being takon, but Mr. J. Hutchesoh asked how could people be Tefused when they wero in want. "They will come, and what can you do!" Mr. C. M. Lnko suggested tba? further warnings should bo inserted in the Auckland Press.
The chairman: Tho Auckland Society will help us as much as they can. Mr. J. Lewis: I. don't see Tiow wo can refuso 'any just claim, whether from Auckland or olsowhero.
Mr. Lufie said they should not ex> haust the fund that was raised for the relief of local people, especially when Auckland'had a larger fund than Wellington had. It was decided to issuo further warnings m Auckland. '
