Tho number of British merchantmen of 1600 tons and upwards which were sunk by mines or submarines totalled 15;. under 1600 tons, G. 'IVclto British merchantmen were unsuccessfully attacked. Renter's Shanghai correspondent states that iu order to convince the Chinese Premier of the sufficiency of Germany's supplies, tho German Minister informed him that glycerine was being extracted from tho corpses of soldiers for use in making explosives.
