ENEMY DESTROYS HIS OWN ■ GUNS MORE VILLAGES CAPTURED GERMAN INTRIGUE WITH MEXICO TO_ ATTACK AMERICA DASHING ADVANCE ON THE TIGRIS The news to-day relates a further successful stago of. Haig's victorious advance on the Ancro. Gommecourt has heon taken, as well as the villages of Thilloy and Puisieux-au-Mont. The question as to whether tho German retirement on this front is strategic or enforced appears to bo settled by tho action of the enemy in destroying his giins. On the other European fronts do event of major importance is recorded, but there are indications of. developing activity in the Balkans-Macedonian front, and on the Russias, southern front in Galicia. Tho pursuit of tho Turks upstream alone the Tigris continues with unflagging energy and the British cavalry is now some distance beyond Kut. The British gunboat Firefly, which was lost after Townshend's victory at Ctcsiphon, just prior to his retirement on Kut-el-Amara, has been recaptured. Tho Gennan-Ainorican crisis, already intensified by tho Laconia crime, has been rondored still more acute by the sensational revelation of a plot by Gormany to engineer an attack by Japan and Mexico on America. Mexico was to intrigue with Japan, and secure, as a reward Texas, N.ow Mexico, and Arizona, as well as a voico in the peace terms.
