CHAMPION SINGLES OF WELLINGTON Yesterday, under blue skies with a light northerly breeze to temper tho warmth of the eun, tho singles representatives of the various city and suburban clubs gathered on tho Hataitai Clubs perfect green to find the Centro Champion of the season. The preen played beautifully, and tho conditions were as Rood all round na any bowler could deeire. The results were as follow ;— First Bound. Powell (Eastbourne) beat Johnson j (Lower ilutt), 18—15. Houldsworth (Tβ Hiwi) beat E. J. Hill (Wellington), 1718. Wearne (Petone) beat Ureenwood (Upper Hutt), 20-14. Worboys (Victoria) beat Read (Newtowo), 20-11. Cooper (Karori) beat Powell (Eastbourne), 23-11. The final game was not a. particularly interesting one. Cooper, who waa "on his length," was playing fairly solid bowls, and forged ahead during- the first half of the game, when Powell made a slight recovery by putting on eix in three heads. Xt was only a Hash in tho pan, however, for Cooper, never varying inuoh in his length, drew eteadily until tho twentieth head, when he was' 9 (20—11) ahead, making the game secure. On tho twentieth he got in another three shots, which ended the came. Powell, who was the runner-up in this event last year, was inclined to play narrow during tho last few heads, and was not so accurate as to length throughout the game. The Champion Pairs aro to bo play.ed on tho v Nowtown Club's green on Wednesday next, and the Champion Kinks on the Wellington Club's green a week later.
