THE PRINCIPAL AWARDS By Telegraph—Spooia 1 Correspondent. _ Taihape, February 28 The sixth annual show of tho li'nngi"Jtikoi A. and P. Association was held on ;ihe Taihapo Showgrounds to-day, and "though tho weather appeared threatening 'in the early morning it cleared later, {sad as a result there iras a record attendance, all parts of tho Main JShink line Twin® represented. Tho entries wore • in excess of last year, and one hotablo feuturo ivas the improvement shown in tho quality of the jsheep. The pons'disclosed an increasingly better breed of animal in a far greater 'number than last year, and if) is quite apparent that tho flockniastors of tho $tangitikoi aro devoting; more attention (to the growing of superior mutton and Iwool producers than hitherto. In. the '■Hairy cattlo class some fine types of anifeials ivere shown in both tho Friesians and Jerseys. Fat cattle were represented Uv several good beast?, tho aged bul-l-Hocks in particular being well finished. :.Tn tho horticultural and industrial •classes the competition was exceedingly jfcen. Mr. W. J. Forster, of Kuanui,' won the medal for the moat points in vegetables, and Mrs. Forster annexed'the Laidlaw Leeds Cup, securing the most points in preserves, etc,
Horses. : ..'All classes were- well represented, excepting draughts and thoroughbreds, but ivhat lacked in numbers was inore than compensated, for by the quality of the entries. Mr. H. Bromley's (Taumanmui) 'big 6tallion wa6 decorated with the re<V ribbon, whilst Messrs. W. ,T. Birch and Son secured tho female championship. Some fine utility horses wero shown among tho hack, harness, and miscellaneous classes, the hacks being: a. specially good lot. Mr. Stan Goodwin's {H.awke's Bay) ■ Ba (chelor showed up to .Treat: advantage, and in addition to nutaexing several awards was given tho champion ribbon for harness horses.

Mrs, Morrin's Gentleman Joe eventually ■won the hack championship. Ponies.—The- putiies proved a. very strong section, all classes filling up splendidly. Closo on twenty exhibit* cnnio ionvurd, and out of this big field Doris An-dry's (Jfiirlon) Fnlada was awiirdod the championship.

Sheep. A. S. Pannin. of Taihape, who was thR most Successful exhibitor of Romnoys. gained both tho ram and tho ewe championships, whilst G. A. Wheeler (of Taeroa) exhibited the ram reserve champion. I. Wilson (Marton) was the principal winner in Lincolns, bat be was defeated by H. Middleton (Waverley) in tho class for three rams under 21 months. W. Reid and Son swept the bpard in Southdowns, and G. H. Brown in Border Leiceslers.
In tho farmers' classes D. Scott (Taihape) gained all the aw.ards, the pel lamb class elicited threo entries, Elsie Bicknell securing first and A. Sloan second.
Tho fat sheep oxport classes woro well filled, the competition between W. Reul and .Ton and J. Webb (Taihape) being very keen; the Foiiding breeders, howover, came off with most of the honours, and in addition to winning* Mr. M. Morrison's cup outright for the most points, they also annexed tho N.Z. Refrigerating Co/s 15-guinea. cup tor most points in fat stock classes. The Sim? Cooper Cup for tho most points obtained by farmers within a radius of 30 miles of Taihape, for fat sheep and lambs, was won by J. Webb for the second year in succession.
i Pigs. There were nineteen entries in tile pit; classes, and some .very fine animals were shown, botK in the purebred and bacoriei' divisions. J. Taylor of Piriaka oxhibi/.ed' both the champion boar and the sow,/the former being a magnificent Berkshire and the sow a sjlendid representative- of tho Yorkshire breed.> In addition ro the two championships, Mr. Taylor svnnoxed ten first awards. W. J. Kuhtze,. ij.f Tnihape, was second in tho class Hov tho Berkshire boar over 12 months, and .T. A. Anderson was second in the,class for tiro pork pigs, Jiot to exceed Wtfb.
