HEARING APPEALS THE CASE OF A GERMAN'S SON TRENCHES NOT SOUGHT Twenty appeals were set down for Jeanne by the Third Wellington , Military Service Board yesterday. The board consists of Messrs. W. H. S. Moorhouse (chairman), A. O'L. Considine, and M. J. Heine remarked that ho had had some difficulty in getting civil employment, and had been put off mor* than one job. had done well, and, as in other cases, there was an element of hardship in this case, bub tho appeal would have to be dismissed.

Railwayman and Seamen, Victor Moxtcd, a Porirua farmer, who had previously obtained time to arrango his affairs, said that ho had been unablo to lot his farm or obtain labour. Lcavo for a further month was guaranteed. Tho following, for whom the Railway Department appealed, were given leavo til) May ].:—Albert,Joseph Wheldon, William Koyos, Albert Lcwiu Lewin, and Joseph John Stevens. Tho father of C. P. Knutsford asked for leave for appellant, who was a voluntary recruit employed at Defence Headquarters. Loavo till March 23 was granted. Adjournments sine die (with exemption from servico meanwhile) were made in tho cases of tho following .seafaring men, for whom Mr. W. T. Young (secretary of tho Seamen's Union) appeared :—Charles Henry King, fireman; Lewis Herbert Sayors, fireman on tho dredgo Canterbury; Thomas Edward Costin, seaman. An appeal lodged on behalf of William Simmonds, fireman, was dismissed. The. case of Joseph Walker, fireman., concerning whoso calling up it appeared that thero might be eoine mistake, was adjourned till Saturday. An appeal for Donald Campbell, seamnn, Lyttelton, was withdrawn, and it was stated that Campbell is going into camp in 'March.

Other Appeals. Edward Henry Freeman, photographer, 23 Home Street, "Wellington, claimed that ho was over age. Tho appeal was allowed. Mr. C. A. llichardson, of the Mutual Life and Citi7/ons' Assurance Co., appealed fo,r one of the company's officers, John B. King, of Palmorston North. Leave till April 28 was granted. An appeal for William Paiil, marine officer, was adjourned till next month. Decision was given in the caso of William Charles Hastings, _ heard on i Tuesday. The appeal was dismissed, j George Herbert Malis Moir, Central I Terrace, Kelburn, was reported.,unfit, and his iippoal was dismissed. ! Georgo Ching, painter, Murphy Street, Wellington, failed to appear, and his appeal was dismissed. The board then adjourned till tomorrow.
