The annual report made allusion to the fact that the association had secured rights to both great cable services now supplying Australian papers, and was able to give, the pick of the messages of both services. During the years over 750,000 words had been supplied, and the amount was likely to be increased. Owing to tho pressure of Government work on the cable lines there had been delays in transmission at times, which caused some inconvenience to subscribers, but everything possible had been done to improve matters. There- -was.also congestion at times on tho New Zealand lines, and most unfortunately the Cook Strait cables had several times been under repair, and interfered with local transmission to some extent. The post was now being used to distribute certain heavy budgets that could not be conveniently telegraphed. There were 74 subscribers to the association.

Discussing the report, suggestions were offered by several members as to >

tho course which should be followed when the time came to renew the cable contracts.

. The chairman delivered an exhaustive address, covering, the work of the association in many branches, aud on his motion the report and balance-sheet was adopted.

Messrs. Brott, Horton, Carson, and Pirani, the retiring directors, were reelected without opposition. Mr. F. Shaw was re-elected auditor. ~

A suggestion was made that the casualty lists posted up by the Government wCuld be much improved if the ncxt-of-kin was inserted, instead of the bare names, as at present. , .

From further discussion it appeared that the possibility of amalgamating the Press Association and the Newspaper Proprietors' Association was under consideration.

„ ■ffollingtonVas selected for the next meeting.
