Women's National Reserve. At the Headquarter's Executive meeting of the Women's National Ileserve, held on I'riday last, the zesignation of Hiss Elsmio AVard, hon. secretary of the W.N.lt., was received, and the following resolution was unanimously passed: —"That tho resignation of Miss Elsmie Ward be accepted with very great regret, and that this meeting place on record its appreciation of tho wholehearted and self-denying manner in which Miss Ward has carried out her exceedingly arduous duties as secretary of tho executive of the W.N.R. of the Wellington district. The executive also wish to thank Miss AVard for the very efficient manner in which she has organised and supervised the Voluntary work done by reserve members for the Defence Department, AVar Belief Association, Mayor's llecruiting Committee, and kindred societies."

Women Police in Melbourne. .; l''or sonic reason (says the Melbourne "Age") the proposal of the Chief Secretary to appoint women police for tho protection 01 females has been held in suspense, 'i'ho reason officially assigned is 4hat the finances of the State will not stand tho extra strain. Meanwhile, a body, which threatens to outrival the scheme of the Chief Secretary has approached Mr. M'Leod for a Government grant to enable it to carry on its work. This body is known as tho Travellers' Aid Society, whoso object is the . "protection from danger and the safeguarding of women, girls and boys travelling alone." At the invitation of Mr. M'Leod, representatives of the society, which is conducted by the Y.AV.C.A., waited on him to talk over their 'proposals. _As Mr. M'Leod detected some similarity'in the

work the aid society proposed to do and that he had in mind for the woman constables, he asked them to put their proposals on paper and submit them for consideration. Mr. M'Leod stated subsequently that if the society could effectively carry out the work intended by the Government to be done, the assistance asked for would be granted. If not, it was hoped to appoint the woman police during the present financial year. In that case, the polico would act in I co-operation with the Aid Society.

Women Cardeners in Christchuroh. An innovation has been effected in the Domain Gardens where two sections of the ground have been handed over to ladies for caretaking purposes (states the Christchuroh "News"). One patch —the native tree section—is now in charge of Miss Bowker, and she is employed in looking after the paths, and keeping the ground clear. The section does credit to its lady caretaker, who has now been employed about a fortnight or so. Miss Dickenson has been chosen to take charge of the rose garden, and she also has been working tor a fortnight. She and Miss Bowker qualified through attending the ladies' gardening class which this year has done so much in the way of making up for the labour taken away, and has proved itself particularly efficient sn potting and transplanting plants.

The Camp Commandant at Trentham acknowledges receipt of a case of preserves from Mr. AV. W. Snodgrass, Nelson, whioli has been handed to the medical authorities for sick troops.
