SELINSKY-AMADIO CONCERT

MOTHER DELIGHTFUL TEO-

GRAMME.

The Concert Chamber was well filled again last evening when the talented Selinsky-Amadio Concert Company presented a programme that cliaraied everyone with a soul for good mupjo. John Amadio, tho brilliant flautist, .was again in good form, and sent his auditors into ecstasies of admiration in a widely diverse range of music. His tonal beauty in tho Schubert "Cradle Song," concluding with a beautifully sustained whisper, was a rare treat. Then followed tho intricate "Witches". Dance (Bucher-Paganini), with its amazing runs and bizarre effects, proving again, if proof were needed, the artist's mastery of the instrument. Tho encore was "The Last Rose of Summer," most tenderly intoned. In the second part he played the rippling dancing "Butterfly Etude" of Kobler and "Gipsy Revels" (German), the compelling "Marche Encore," and "Home, Sweet Home," completely winning over the audience with his'virile artistry. M. Selinsky, in association with Miss Jessie Masson, played the Sonata in 0 Minor (for violin and piano), by Groig, a very difficult work that makes heavy demands on the executants. Tho Sonata is ablaze with colour, from.the eerie and sombre first movement, to. the quaint dance movement with whjch it concludes, and it was played with, a. strength and fervour that created well-merited enthusiasm. Miss Masson's share in the triumph was equal in every respect to that of the, violinist. As an encore M. Selinsky nlayod the "Wilhelmj-Sclrabert "Ave Maria" with rare feeling, and was accorded an ovation. In tho second part he plajed a- lilting "Mazurka" by Zarzitski, the Bach-Auer "Sicilienne," and tho familiar "Tambourin Chinois" of Kreisler, and as an encore a "Mazurka" by Wieniawski. Miss Elsy Treweek was;in fine voice. She sang the "Ah Fors e Tiiii" aria with a- vocal grace and abandon that surprised her admirers, and which pointed to the operatic in music a's her happiest metipr. As an encore she sang an "Ave Maria" to the nir of the Intermezzo from Maseagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana," and again recalled, sang that -piquant ballad of spring. "Wake Vr>." Late she sang the aubade "Le Roi d'Ys" (Lalo}, and Dvorak's chnrming "Songs My Mother ■Taught Me," with other numbers. Miss Masson, who has a host of_ admirers, played with splendid certitude find claritv Brahms's "Rhppscißie in ..B," and Chopin's "Fantasia Impromptu," and was properly encored. Her accompaniments are a feature of ■ the concerts. '

At this evening's concert Mr. Amndio will play ilie celebrated flute solo "The "Wind in the Trees" and' "The Carnival clg Venice"- amongst other numbers. M. Selinsky will play the "Ballade and Polonniso" of Vieuxtemps; Miss Masson wfll plav Oliopin's "Scherzo in C Sharp." and Miss E!sy Trewoek will sins; the "Jewel Song" from "Faust," and "Spring's Awakening." The management announces n fourth p.nd farewell concert for Wednesday evening, when a m-ogramme of especial attractiveness will be presented.
