MAGISTRATE'S COURT
At the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., presided. For insobriety, Mary Burgoyne was convioted, and a prohibition order issued against her by consent. William Smith, against whom there was a previous conviction, was fined 10s., default being fixed at three days' imprisonment. 'Allan M'Phee, also with a previous conviction, was similarly dealt with. Three first offenders were convicted and disoharged. For being found drunk in Tory Street Gustavo Neilson was formally convicted, and for using obscene ; language while being taken to the Police Station he was fined 205., in the alternative seven days' imprisonment. A plea of not guilty was entered by Vincent Barrow, for whom Mr. Percy Jackson appeared, to a charge of assaulting Joseph Price Manson and Horace Arthur Law in Vivian Street na Friday uighf;. After hearing tho evidence of the complainants and of the accused and another witness, the Magistrate said he did not believe the evidence given for the defence, and imposed a fino of 205., in default seven days' imprisonment.
