FALSE TRADE DESCRIPTION
CONVICTION RECORDED. Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., delivered reserved judgment in the Magistrate's Court yesterday in the caso against Victor Edgar Segal, jewellery importer and retailer, who was charged with applying a false trade description to good's, viz., "Stirling silver plate salts," and selling the same.' The hearing of the case was concluded on Tuesday last. ■. The Magistrate said that in his opinion the charge, had been proved, and there was no doubt m his mind that the articles in question had been incorrectly and falsely described. He fined the accused £5, with costs. Mr. Meredith, who appeared for {.no prosecution, withdrew the remaining charges, since tho practice had been established and the object of the prosecution attained. He then asked for solicitor's costs, to which Mr. 0. C. Mazengarb objected, holding that such costs were not justified, in view of the fact that the 'Jewell ars' Association could have' accomplished their purpose by writing to Seiial lr.s attention "to the illegality of the matter- ..„, , . The Magistrate took a cliflerent view of the question, and awarded 21s. solitor's costs in.each case.
