FINE RED CROSS RECORD

The fine Tecord of the British Red Cross in~connection with the present war, ivhich was briefly disclosed in Press cablegrams last Monday, should assure the public that all donations and assistance given to the Red Cross are utilised with the greatest of care, and to the fullest possible extent in its mission of mercy. It was stated that tke income of the British Red Cross in the second year of the war amounted to and, the management expenses last year were below 7d. in the £. The exnenditure on hospitals has b-isn £162,70.% Red Cross units £279,798. grants to auxiliary bodies \£1G2,220. The society possesses 2522 ambulances, cars, wagons, and travelling soup kitchens, of which 1829 are in Trance. This stanos os a less in economical management to all similar philanthropic organisations, and. the low cost of management, viz., 7d. in the £, is a record to bo proud of. lord Northcliffe, the great war critic, writes:—"The Red Cross is an organisation at whose perfection I stand and marvel." We have been advised that the funds raised by the Red Cross Art Union of Taihape will be cabled to the British Red 'Cross in England, and thus be available for our boys in the coining gieat offensive. Thero are 31 prizes in the Taihane Art Union,_ 1000 sheep haviug been donated by Taihape farmers for tho purpose. Tickets are Is. each.
