VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Victoria College Council was held Jast evening, Mr. Clement Watson presiding. There were also present tho Hon. A. T. Maginnity and Messrs. W. S. La Troce, W. H. Morton, T. R. Fleming, It. M'Callum, M.P., Rev. W. A. Evans, and Professors Brown and Garrow.

Voluminous correspondence was received from the Secretary of State with regard to scientific and industrial research, and it was decided to refer the correspondence to the Professorial Board for consideration. It was also decided to refer to "the snme board the letter from tho Consnl-General for the Netherlands at Melbourne, suggestingthat in view of the probability of an increase- 'of trade between New Zealand and the Dutch Indies it would be advisable to include the Dutch language among the college subjects. Tho council decided 1 to determine certain maturing fire insurance policies and insure tho science buildings and J apparatus and gymnasium with tho State Fire Office.
