GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE PICNIC
The thirty-seventh annual picnic of the Government Printing Omco took place on Tuesday at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, where close on 800 picnickers gathered. The Hon. G. W. Russell (Minister, in Charge of the Office), accompanied by the Misses Bussell, visited the park in tlio afternoon. The Minister made an interesting speech, thanking the staff for their loyal support during the period of the war. Miss .Eussoll, assisted by Mr. M. F. Marks (Government Printer), presented tho prizes. Music was rendered during the day by Andrew Williams's string band. The following are results of the various sports events:—Quoits—Brownlee, 1; Millar, 2. Apprentices—Park, I;, Carter, 2. Tug-of-wars—Binders. "G.P.O. handicap—Thompson, 1; Scatchard, 2; Baker, 3. Office ladies—Miss Workman, 1. Journeymen—Houchen, 1; Tullet, 2. Eanfurly—Baker," 1; Shannon, 2. Thrcad-tho-needlo—Mrs. Emloy and Balcer. Married ladies—Mrs. Duncan, 1; Haggitt, 2. Guessing competition (number of type in bottlo)—Actual number, 1405.
