FIRE IN LOWER CUBA STREET

DAMAGE SLIGHT.

''& slight outbreak of fire occurred a.hout 10.45 a.m. yesterday in Lower Cuba Street in a building occupied by Alexander and Co., _motor dealers, Blake and Co., upholsterers, and Benjamin Thomas, bicycle mechanic. The blazo was caused by the ignition •of some benzine in the while Mr. Thomas was engaged in vulcanising. The contents of Mr. Thomas's flat wore badly damaged, but the Fire Brigade suppressed the flames before damage could be wrought in any other part of the building. A considerable amount of water reached the ground floor (occupied by Alexander and Co.), but little material loss will result from this cause.

Mr. Thomas, who was badly, burnt about the hands, was removed to the Hospital. Hβ is a married man, about fifty years of age.
