TRENTHAM SOLDIERS' CLUB

\ VISITED BY THE MAYOR. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) visited. Trentham Camp on Monday afternoon, and with the Commandant,- LieutenantColonel H. R. Potter, inspected the building for the new • Soldiers' Club, .which is now nearing completion. The cost of the building, about £3000, was jnet by grant from the Government of '£1500, a donation from tho Y.M.C.A. of £1000, while the balance of £500 was contributed by citizens of Wellington,'- who responded to' the Mayor's appeal for funds for this worthy purpose.. . 1 ■ ... When completed, the club buildings ■will' accommodate a large-number of menj as well as. officers and n.c.o's. The ground plan is in the form of a ■huge H, the central bar in the H being t la men's lounge and social room: Its 'dimensions arc 60ft.'x 30ft. Other rooms in the building aro a-reading room 34ft. x 30ft., and a n.c.o's. room aOft. x 30ft., while slightly smaller rooms, yot roomy enough, provide further means of rest- and recreation for all ranks, tho officers' quarters occupyingtho least space of any. Pianos and billiard tables are to be provided, and there aro eleven fireplaces in the building, every room having one, and several of the rooms two fireplaces. Adequate ventilation is provided in the eaves, whilo the rooms are kept fresh by" ventilators in the roof, which draw oft tho heated air. A .'custodian's fjiiarters . aro an adjunct, whilo very large porcbofl and cloak-rooms,are part of the building scheme. Lavatories for tho various ranks arc provided. Tho appearance of tho building is excellent, both insido and out. and the lighting of tho roomsiwill be found satisfactory when tho soldiers come to use the club."
