NOTES AND COMMENTS
.'Br Glencoe.l Another Wanganui Cup meeting has rolled round, and this year the ■ race promises to be as interesting as in previous years. ■ Fully, half a dozen of the runners would seem to possess chances second to none, and a keen struggle should take place. Bunting may carry more money on tho machine than any of the other runners, but it ehould be borne m mind that the Wellington Cup winner hae 151b. moro on his back than he scored .with at Trentham, and again he is not likely to be- so much at home on the Wanganui coarse, which is on the small side, as he would bo at Trentham Colonel Soult, Bst. 51b., is tho best handicapped horse in the race. Hβ has only 21b. more than h* 6cored with last year, and since then, he has won the Avondale Cup, 600' sovs., the King Edward Handicap, 1000 sovs., and the A.R.C. Handicap, in'which Wishful divided the fitalce with him. At his last.time out the Auckland champion was looking yery .ragged, and bors the appearance of haying done plenty of racing, but he has had a few weeks to freshen up since then, and hiS'hrilliant track (work at WangaTinii last week shows, that, them is very little wrong with- him.
Analogue, .who'is in ,it 7st. 91b.. has none the best, of the weights, but he is coming on with racing, and was runnerup in both, tho Hawcra- and Now Plymouth Cups. Ho requires a. lot of riding, and really is better off bv having ■a bit of weight to carry. Tho Waverley horse is a genuine stayer, .and it is said that several of tho leading jockeys have been anxious to secure the mount on 3U". Gardner's charge. Client, 7st. 91b., who carries the colours of a popular steward of the Wellington Club" .is well fancied, primarily on account of -Tiis qwxli showing in the Wellington Cup, in which ho got. a very bad run, and now meets Buntinsr oil much better terms. Tho chestnut alw.ivs races well on the Wanganui tracks. The lightly-weighted Housewife will doubtless try to win from end to end, and such tactics ore. suitable on tho Wanganui course. In recent Tears Boomerang and Tiresome have won in this manlier. The latter, by tho way. raced in the same colours as Housewife Trill cany tide week.
Form Up is first choice in tho Flying Handicap, but the (food-lookinj* thnxi-ycar-old will havn to faster than over '"previously if ho is to defeat Chalcwnnsi.' Considerable interest is being manifested in tho meeting' of the pair, and fpiite a lot of money ihay cliange hands in to how-they- will bo placed' at the end of the first two'furlongs. It is recognised that if Chakwana gels the rails-by the time the last half-mile is entered upon she will be very hard to bear, as anything else will havo to so round her on the turn, which is. in itself a Dip handicap. OuUidn of this pair. Nystad is 'ii most demand, tirifiiarilv on account of his (rood sliowinor behind Enlland and Bimeter at New Plymouth. However, Mio' Tlifrlitleii stables iias b«nn out; of luck for a long time, and really seems unable to do anything right.
