REACTION ON THE WORKERS. Tho question of the consideration , of the action of the Go\'ercment regarding the price of wheat and 1 flour was to liavo been discussed at yesterday's meeting of tho Council of tho Central Chamber of Commerco, but owing to tho absence of Mr. Hall it was deferred until the next; meeting. Referring to this subject, Mr. L. A'. Edwards said that ho was very much' afraid'that the .upward niovo of prices was not only affected by tho production of tho goods, but that at 'the back of the whole trouble was the "gor slow" method that had now become an established thing with some of the labouring classes.' It was absolutely inevitable arid patent that if a fair day|s work was not given in return for a fair day's pay the cost of living must rise. If the men only lifted 200 sacks of flour during a time when they should have shifted 400 sacks, that extra cost must eo on to the bread —that was a factoAhat was counting all the time. He wondered 1 why the employers did not get closer to the working classes and -explain how the tactics they were employing were causing the increased cost of living they so bitterly complained of. The- employers would say that they do try to ; got closer, \but they did not. The men should be shown how if they did iiob givo their, full productive power living must nso to themselves.
