MAGISTRATE'S COURT
. POLICE OASES. . Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M., presided over a Bitting of the Magistrate's Court on Saturday. Charges of possessing insufficient lawful means of support were preferred against Mary Emma Switella and Annio Eraser, two girls of about twenty. The police alleged that they had been loading an immoral life, and produced letters in support of tho allegation! His Worship ordered the girls, who were very nervous and tearful, to he remanded for a few days. In the meantime they will bo detained in the Salvation Army Home. William Herbert Vincent was fined £2 for insobrioty, the alternative being fixed at seven days' imprisonment. For a liko offence, Peter M'Carron, wlio had fewer previous convictions, was ordered to pav a fino of 20s. or go to gaol for three days. Robert Carlton Gray, charged with escaping from legal custody and also with theft, was remanded to Wednesday next on the application of Chief Detective Boddam. Thomas O'Brien was convicted of drunkenness and discharged. Ho was also convicted upon two charges of using obscene language. On the first he.was 'fined £3, with the alternative of 21 days' imprisonment, ■ and on the second 205., with the alternative of soven days' imprisonment.
