MAGISTRATE'S COURT
; POLICE CASES. Mr. L. G. Eeid, S.M/., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Timothy Francis Maloney was remanded to appear later on a charge of having, hy .means of a forged receipt, obtained from the Postmaster at Spring Creek a registered letter containing a money order for ,£lO 12s. Patrick Byan, charged with bein; unlawfully on premises by night, was con-victed-and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Ho was also ordered to. be prohibited from obtaining liquor. Two charges against John Tangney of selling liquor to a person under 21 .rears 'of age, and knowingly sc-lling liquor in respect of which an offence under the War Regulations had been committed, were adjourned for a week. Thomas William Harris, residing in a No-License district, was convicted of obtaining liquor without notifying the vendor that ho was a resident in such district. He was fined '10s., Default of payment was fixed at seven days' imprisonment. William Ham was remained for a week 6n a charge of loitering in Mercer Street for the purpose of betting. Frederick O'Driy, a prohibited person, convicted of entering licensed premises, was lined '105.,.' with the alternative of 1-1 days' imprisonment. Mrs. Bowden was convicted of being the owner of a dog that attacked one Jean Jackson, "endangering life and limb." She was ordered to pay costs.
BY-LAW CASES. . For using Xor gardening purposes water which had not passed through a meter, Alexander Gowans was ordered to pay costs, 7s. Benjamin Cooper was liued 10s. and ' costs for being in charge of ail insuffi-ciently-lighted vehicle. For like offences Marcus Gordon and AYillinm Stnnden were respectively fined 55., and ordered to pay costs 7s. Louis Banifield, who. had left a motorcar unattended in the street for more than ten minutes, was ordered to pay costs 7s. For dangerous driving, David Mason was fined -10s. and costs. Failure to stop a motor-car when requested by a constable to do so led to John Foley being fined 55., with costs. George Hartley, for riding a motor cycle that' had no number, was fined ss. and costs. Frank Kettlewell, for allowing a horse to wander at large, was fined 2s. Od. and costs, while John Itussell Physick, for a similar offence, was ordered to pay costs 7s. .
OTHER CASES. A. Dimdore was convicted of selling a pair of children's shoes cardboard in the soles without milking a statement of the material of whif;h the soles were made. He was fined 205., with costs 7s. Jane Siegel was convicted' of having during three months employed a girl under the ago of 1G years, without holding a certificate as to the girl's fitness. She was further convicted of having

Muir. who was convicted of cruelly beating a li*:se in his charge, was fined 20s. and costs.
