CITY APPEALS

CASES HEARD YESTERDAY

The-Third Wellington Military Service Board dealt with a considerable number of appeals yesterday. The chairman of the board is Mr. W. H. S. Moorhouse, and the other members are Messrs. A. O'L. Consodine and M. J. Mack. Appeals by the Catholic clergy and the Public Trustee, and a discussion on the subject of a definition of "undue hardship" are reported under other headings. C. E-. Smith, a- member of the Na tional Committee of the Y.M.C.A., ap peared to seek exemption for Fredk A. Parry, Field Secretary, with th Y.M.C.A. in Egypt, and at presen vorking among the wen who are fight ng the Senussi. Appellant said tha 'arry was one of tile seven or eigh p irst Division men who werfe doinf .eld service work. Kirkeaklie appeared ill in appeal tor William James Keys, noulder, care Niven and Co., Napier, mt the board said that the case was me in which it had no jurisdiction. The Department of Education aj;lealed in behalf of T. P. Cox, of the education Department, Wellington, dr. F, K. Dq Castro gavo evidence that '5 per cent, of the office staff had enisted—fifteen or sixteeii out of twentymo. No First Division men had wait>d to be balloted. Exemption till the snd of April was sought, and the board ;ranted it. . , Appeals'by W. T. WOODVILLE APPEALS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Woodville, February 16. ; The Military Servioe Board sat here this morning, when George Aikinson, of Makoinako, was given leave till April 30. Tho case of E. P. Hall was adjourned until the next meeting. Charles Roberts, of Pongaroa, and Clifford Smith, of Pabiatua, had leave granted them until April 30; J. J. Sutherland, of Pabiatua, withdrew his appeal; Leonard James Bowden,. of Matamau, was given exemption till the first concentration camp, to be held in July. The appeal of Herbert Davis, of AYaipatiki, was allowed. Francis A. Liquori Hatwell, of Dannevirke, was* granted one month's exemption. Frank May, of Terelnmga, was granted exemption until May 28. Frederick. J. F. Moore, of Dannevirke, was granted leave until May 30. Peter Edward] Nikolaison, of Whctukura, withdrew bis appeal. Exemption till May 28 was granted Daniel Joseph O'Sullivan, of Takapau. John Charles Sullivan, of TJmutaroa, was granted leavo until April 30. The appeal of Edward Hossiter, Dannevirke, was dismissed. Willinin Smith, of To Papakura, was granted leave until April 30, and John Struthers, of Matamau, was granted exemption to May 28. •
