The Hon. Sir James : J./Allen goes south to Dunedin this evening. ' The Hon. A. L. Herdman (AttorneyGeneral) lias gone to Christchurch. The Hon. W. D. S! Ma-cDonald leaves to-morrow night for Hawke's Bay. Sub-Inspector M'Kinnon, who has been transferred to Palmerston North, was yesterday .afternoon'the recipient of-a case of pipes, and .a-cigar-holder, for himself, and a silver cheese dish, a silver butter dish, and a silver kettle for Mrs. M'Kinnon. The presentation was made on behalf of the Wellington police by Sub-Inspector Dew, who spoke highly of the fine personal qualities possessed by the departing officer. Particular reference was made to Mr. M'Kinnon's ability and. tact, and tlie best wishes of the local force "were conveyed to him. Senior Sergeant Emerson; Sergeant Wade, and Detective Abbott added expressions of appreciation and goodwill. The Rev. Father Guinane,' who has ■been transferred from Ma-sterton to the Lower Hutt, was entertained at "a farowell "social" in Masterton on Thursday evening by the parishioners ,of St. Patrick's Church. - Second Lieutenant W. E. Moore, of Auckland, has, says a Press Association telegram, been awarded the Military Cross. • , Mr. E.'Averill lias been re-elected to represent the Hawke's Bay A. and P. Association on the Board of Agriculture. At the instance of the Petone District High School, a meeting of local resi-dents-will be called at an early date to take steps to recognise the services, to the community of Mr. AV. Foster, lato headmaster. • Dr. Levinge, of Christchurcli, has accepted the offer of a position at the Porirua Mental Hospital where lio will relieve a mediciil assistant who is leaving shortly-for'active service. Dr. Levinge will take up his appointment at the end of this month. Dr. A. Wilson, of AVangaimi, who some time ago volunteered for war service, has been appointed to a position in tho New Zealand Base Hospital, England. Dr. AVilson leaves for Awapuni Camp at the end of the present month.
