NEW CITY BANK

PARTICULARS OF THE BUILDING. T'bo National Bank of Now Zealand, Ltd., intend erecting a new branch bank on the south-west corner of' Cuba and Vivian Streets ; '(opposito their existing premises. Tho site has a frontage of soft, to Cuba Streot, and approximately TOffc. to Vivian Street. The building will "be of tho most modern construction, fireproof throughout, and three stories high. Tho exterior will be entirely in stone, tlie lower portion being of "Malmeabury" rook-faced, the entranco doorway and other features having a drubbed" treatment by . way of contrast. ' The whole of tho uppor portion is to bo of Sydney sandstone, including eight fluted Corinthian columns, and the entablature over enriched with carving. /The banking chamber, approached by 4 vestibule having a marble dado and floor will bo of an octagonal shape, having coupled Corinthian columns at each of the angles. The columns will "bo of marble with bronze caps and stand upon moulded pedestals 4ft. 6in. high. Tliey support a coffered ceilinjr, having radiating ribs to the drum of tho glazed dome. Between the columns on tho wall surfaces an arcaded treatment lias; been adopted, the-soffits of tho arches having ornaments and small octagonal ' colfore. The height of tho chamber to tho main cornico will be about 23ft., and tho extreme height of the dome will be ! Sfift. The floor of this banking hall will be covered with tiles of cork. Tho counters (faced with marble), and tho screens over (bronze) will be arranged in the shape of ten sides of <i dodecagon, affording genorous space for t'lio use of the public, combined with the acme of convenience. Tho convenience and comfort of the staff (both sexes) has been carefully studied hv the architect, and includes* such features as lunclieon Tooms, 1 kitchenettes, etc. Tho whole of the upper floor of the building is to ho subdivided as offices to rent, so arranged as to .be let singly or en suito. Tho architect for the building is Mr. Claude .Tones, and the general contractor Mr. . W. M'Lellan, of Dunedin.
