Secretary of Marine, advises that the Hinemoa, -which arrived in port yesterday from Cook Strait, -will leave here on "Wednesday next on her periodical trip round the northern lighthouses and harbours. Captain Bollons reports that a fairly good trip was experienced in tho Strait. , Owing to bad weather, Karori Bock could not be visited. A landing ■was made at The Brothers, the buoy overhauled at tho Beef Barrells, the gas reservoir at Okuri Point recharged, and a landing mado at Stephen Island. BLACKBALL BOATS. The Ngatoro -was to have left Greymouth* last night for Whongarei. After discharging coal at Whangarei she returns to Auckland to pick up general cargo for Wellington. The Ngahcre arrived last night from Greymouth, and will bo discharging coal here to-day and to-morrow. Her future movements had not been definitey fixed yesterday. Tho collier Ngaltuta is to load a cargo of coal at Greymouth for Napier and New Plymouth.
SOUTHERN CKOSS LEAVES AUCKLAND. The Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross was to have left Auckland for tho Islands yesterday morning. The vessel has been in Auckland since October, waiting for the hurricane season to be over at the Islands. Her first call will ho Norfolk Island, and after that she will cruise round the Melanesian Group on mission work. Dr. C. J. Wood, Bishop of Melanesia, who will travel by the steamer, will stay in the group, and not return 1 with the vessel next June. The following passengers were sailing by tho vessel :— Mrs. A. G. Quintal and child, Misses Griffin, Walker, and France, Sister Dora, Mr. R. M. Jenkins. MESS TABLE GOSSIP. Captain G. P. Hall, at present chief ofiicer of tho Hinemoa, has been appointcd to replace Captain Broadhouse as officer in charge of the Government shipping office when Captain Broadhouse takes up tho position of Surveyor of Ships in Wellington. Captain Hall joined the Hinemoa in December, 1915. Previously he was master of the whaler Hanauui at Russell, and before that a chief officer in the "Knighjj" Line, which traded between these Jorts and England at that time. The change will take placo as son as a first officer can be obtained to replace Captain Hall on the Hinemoa. A painful accident occurred on Tuesday morning to W. W. Wilson, second engineer of the mission steamer Southern Cross. When Mr. Wilson was unscrewing a steam valve on top of the boiler, it blew out, and struck him in the lower part of the face, inflicting severe injuries. Mr. Wilson's face was also badly scalded by steam and hot water from the valve. He was takerf to the Hospital, where his injuries were attended to, and he was reported to be progressing satisfactorily. , Captain Hay, who has been on six weeks' holiday, has rejoined the Nikau, and Captain Wildman, junr., who has been relieving him, has replaced Captain Wildman, senr., of tho Kaitoa, who has gone on leave.
The collier Kaiapoi left Newcastle at 11 p.m. on Saturday last for Bluff and Dunedin. She Is bringing a full careo of coal for the ports named, and should reach Bluff to-night. The Breeze is scheduled to sail from' Dunedin for Timaru, Lyttelton, Picton, and Wanganui to-day. The Calm is expected to reach Dunedin to-morrow from northern ports, and will load for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Tho Wanaka is due at Auckland from Westport to-day. After discharge of her coal cargo at Auckland she proceeds on to Newcastle to load for Wellington. The Blenheim is due here to-day from the Sounds, and will not sail on the return trip until Monday. Owing to stress of weather the scow Echo put back into Worser Bay on Wednesday night, and left ncain yesterday for Tsrakohc. Tlic Tainui and Oueen of the South,. which also returned to port on account of. the weather, left for tli»ir respective ports yesterday.. After a. fair,trip down the coast the trawler Nora Niven arrived from Nanier yesterday morning slitlitly narlior than was expected.
