LONG SERVICE MEDALS

SOME NEW REGULATIONS. New regulations were issued in General Orders yesterday governing the granting of the New Zealand Service Medal and the New Zealand Long and Efficient Service Medal. They are as follow:— 1. Officers and ii.c.o.'s of the New Zealand Volunteer or Territorial Forces who were permanently appointed to the New Zealand Staff Corps or New Zealand Permanent Staff, and who, through insufficient qualifying service, were not eligible for the award of one or both of the above medals, on their severing their connection with the New Zealand Volunteer or Territorial Forces will, on their making formal application, be considered for the grant of the New Zealand Service Medal and the New Zealand Long and Efficient Service Medal. 2. No such applications will he considered unless the officer or n.c.o. concerned has performed the following service:— (a) For New Zealand Service Medal — 9 years' continuous efficient service in the New Zealand Volunteer or Territorial Forces, and 3 years (25 per cent, of 12 years) in the New Zealand Staff Corps or New Zealand Permanent Staff. (b) For' New Zealand Long and Efficient Service Medal. —(i.) ■ 13 -years 219 days' continuous efficient service in the Now Zealand Volunteer or Territorial Forces, and 2 years MR dnvs'. (15 per cent, of 16 rears) in the New Zealand Staff Corns or New Zealand Permanent Staff, (ii) 17 years' broken efficient service in the New Zealand Volunteer orTerritorial .Force.}, and 3 ye.TS (15 per cent, of 20 vears) in the Now Zeaknd Staff Corn' or New Zealand Permanent Staff. A words under these, regulations will he snhiect to the recommendation of the Officer the District, or the Commandant of Cnmi) in which the officer or n.c.o_. is serving at time of making application.
