SELECTING A CANDIDATE.
11 was expected that before this time some announcement would have been made regarding tho selection of a candidate for the Hawke's Bay seat.. It. is understood that Sir John Findlay was the candidate selected by thp party, but that, he has not consented 'Unconditionally to stand, and that ho has not given even eonditioiial consentvery readily. Tho Hon. W. T). S. MiicDonald has been in the district interviewing representative local people, but no news has coturc of tho result of his conferences. A. number of names of local aspirants to political honours have been mentioned. It is stated that in any event llr. H. Lan Sitnson is likely to be a candidate-
