The following "berths have been allotted so far to vessels due here to-day:— Kamo, Taranaki Street Wharf. Kaitoa, No. 10 Queen's Wharf. Maori, Kirry Wharf. Wairau, No. 11 Queen's Wharf. Echo, Ferry Wharf. Ripple, Ferry Wharf. , . Queen of the South, Glasgow Wharf. THE LAURA AND SENORITA. Tile barquentines Laura and Senorita have both left Newcastle for Auckland, and as their departure from the Australian port was -within a very short time of each other, and they being of about the same size, one of the most* ing races for some time past is expected. The Lauro.. is making her first trip since being extensively overhauled, and she is' bringing to Auckland about 500 tons of coal. Slie was previously lying idle at Sydney for about twelve months. Captain Scutze is commaading the vessel on this run. The Senorita is still under the command of Captain Whitton, and as this vessel has put up some very smart -passages across from Australia, the race should be spirited. Both vessels left Newcastle on February 6. PORT OF NEWCASTLE. A letter received in Auckland by the Sydney mail contains interesting details of conditions at the great coalinjr -port of Newcastle. ' Few ships ' ara requiring, bunkering coal, and there is- a generally quiet air about the port. The once exceptionally busy atmosphere of Newcastle has suffered a big change during the past, few months, and in the words of one of the shipping masters' there. "There is nothing doing." Among the ships which are awaiting loading there is the fine ship Golden Gate. ■. WIMMERA LAYS UP. , Cable advice received from Australia by the Huddart, Parker Co. yesterday stated that the Wimmera was la-yinp: un at Melbourne until March 3, and' is not due in Wellington until March 8. No reason for the vessel's withdrawal was given. WESTRALIA NOT COMING. Owing to the waterside trouble the Westralia, which- was expected here about the end of the week, will not now come south, but is scheduled to leave Auckland to-day for Sydney direct. MAPOURIKA GOES TO WESTPORT. Tho Union Company advise that the Mapourika will leave hero at 5 p.m. today for Westport direct, missing the usual calls at'Picton and Nelson en route. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. \ Mr. R. Rogers has joined the Mapourika as assistant purser. Mr. C. Brebner, thirds engineer of the Kittawa. has come ashore.' and has been replaced by Mr. A. White. Mr. C. Anderson, third officer of a.suecial service ship, has come ashore, and has been replaced by Mr. J. Pittar. late of the Kakapo. Captain S. Vint has joined the same vessel as extra officer, and Mr. | ~H. F. Hartley has signed on as assistant wireless operator. ,
The Ripple has' been fuit'jcr delayed. Loading of -wool on the vessel at Atiitio was delayed owing to bad -weather, and consequently she is not duo here until to-day. Sho" may get away or. the return to-morrow. No word ha 3 been received of tho auxiliary schooner Echo, which ivas due here from the 1 East- Coast yesterday. Probably the southerly winds wo delaying tho vtfsel. and she may get in licro to-day. She returns to the East Coast. The HinittanKi is due at Lyttslton Today from the Chatham?, and leases again to-day for Waitangi, returnee again'to Lyttelton. After being delayed for some time by the labour trouble, the Breeze sot away last evening for lyttelton, Timaru,. and Dunedin. The Kamo left Groymonth early yesterday morning with a full of ooal for Wellington. She is due hero this morning.
