BALLOTTED MEN
! r^ : 'ATTESTATION BEFORE APPEAL.
Tho following notice concerning the attestation of ballotted men appeared m a District Orders:— ' '"Where ballotted men are called up lor meqical examination before their appeals are heard, they should be asked to attest. It should be made clear that no ballotted man can bo compelled to attest, but that each should ho advised to. do so in order to save lieinc; called np_ a second time in event of appeal beine dismissed. It is immaterialwhether ballotted men do, or do not attest, as. according to section eleven, Military Service Act, ballotted men aro soldiers from date the name appears in Gazette. The nnlv effect of attestation is that a ballotted man goes into camp to all appearances a volunteer. Men should, be told that by attesting they neither affect their status nor incur any greater liability, also that attestation does no prejudice their ap-1 peal in any way. '
