SWIMMING
. The swimming and life-saving events of. the Island Bay Surf and Life-Saving Club attracted a large crowd on Saturday afternoon. Competition in land drill and life-saving in the water by reel teams proved vory interesting, and was won by the married women, single women second, and incu third. Tho judges for tliis event were Mr. G. S. Hill and Mr. YV. G. Collier. Mr. Hill addressed, tho competitors, and spoke on tho fine work that'wits being dono by the E.L.S. Society, and of the awards won by members, and congratulated the club l on having such a fine active membership of 170, and on tho fine work put up by tbo teams in the competition. Mr. W. H. Coy, clnb.preaiilrfll!, thanked tho public for their attendance, and spoko of the fine work put in by 11. B. H. Bird, the club's instructor. Mr. Coy mentioned that Mrs. J. Walker had been elected assistant instructor to help forward the work in tbe ladies' branch. Tho following were tho swimming events i — ■ Mr. AV. H.
