Owing to being unablo to get a supply of coal aboard, tlio departure of the Pateeua for Picton and Nelson was postponed until 11 a.m. to-day, when an attempt will be made to get the vessel away. Sho will only so as far as Picton, however, turning round and returning tonight. It is doubtful whether the Jlapourika will got away for Picton, Nelson, and West Coast to-day, and she lms in the meanwhile been postponed from noon to 5 p.m. , The Monowai left last evening, and goes to Lyttel«m ouly. 6ho is expected back here on Thursday, when her future movements may bo more deflnito than at present. The Corinna was to have left Dunedin lust night at 10 o'clock, and is due here on Thursday. Sho goes on to Nelson and Now Plymouth, in her usual run. Tho Kauri is timed to leave Wcatpoi't at. 3 p.m. to-day for Wellington. The Rosamond was to have left Duncdin yesterday' for Wellington direct. Her movements after arrive! here at. indefinite. The Kowhai was to have left Gisbome yesterday for Wellington. On arrival here she undergoes anual survey. The Kamo was to have left Orcyraouth yesterday afternoon for Wellington. The Tarawora. which left Auckland on Saturday, left Napier for Wellington ye?, terday. and is due this morning. She will probably go south to-day. jrOEBAKI' FROM SYDNEY. From Sydney direct tho T.S.S. Itooraki arrived in port at 11 a.m. yesterday, and berthed at No. 1 North Qucon's Wharf half an hour later. The vessel left Sydney at 1 p.m. ou Thursday, and experienced tairly smooth seas on her trip across. The Tessera principal lines of cargo for Wellington wcrc:-14 boxes tin plates, 28 bags canary seed. 212 bales kapok, 235 cases preserves. 803 cases pineapples, 800 bags wax, 30 kegs cream of tartar, 25 cylinders ammonia, 200 cases whisky, 85 cylinders CO2 gas, 30 cases machine, 350 bags meal, 25 enscs tobacco, 60 cases drugs, 200 ags of rice, 65 crates bottles, 22.250 blocks. Last night it was not ascertainable whether t,ho vessel would go south to-dav or not, but sho will probably do so. LOSS OF THE NETHTIS. A Now York message dated December 17 slates that the Brazilian barque Ncthtis, with 12 men on board, was lost during a snowstorm on December 15 off Barnc-
gat. on tho New Jersey coast, according to Captain Moroos, of the tug Garibaldi, whioh arrived at New York on December 17. Tho Ncthtis was a tow or tho Garibaldi, on her way to New York from Maranhain, Brazil. Tho barque was lost, according to Captain Moroes, through the brealting o£ tho chain tackletto which the towline was fastened. This occurred shortly before 7 p.m., and for seven hours the tug searched through the blinding storm for some trace of her tow, repeats edly sounding her whistle and burninn lights. The Garibaldi, with her tow, 6tarted from Maranham on October 13, touching at Barbadoes and San Juan for coal and supplies. Less than 60 miles of her 6CCo.mile voyage remained to bp. covered when the 'barque was lost. On three previous occasions, the captain said, the tow-lino parted, but. the tng always managed to pick un the baro.ue again. The heavy weather and high gales prevailing on the day of the disaster, malting it impossible to see any distance from the tug. caused the barque to be swept almost instantly out of sight as soon as the tackle parted. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. The death is announced of Captain John Butler, of the Clutha. flivcr steam Eervicc, in his 73i'd year. The deceased had been a familiar hguro in Ba (clutha for nearly forty years, lie was hrst engineer and then master of the Slatau uaul she was scrapped, and afterwards had command of the Clyde aud tho Clutha.
Captaiu Bark has resumed command of the Karawa, relieving Captain Picrotti, who has taken command of the Waiota-hi in place of Captain Wilson, who has gone on holidays.
Mr. Brenner has joined the Koromiko as third officer, in place of Mr. JlacLeish, who has gone on holiday leave. Mr. C. Anderson, late of a special service ship, has joined the Maori as third officer.
Mr. J. Pittar, second mate of the Kakapo, has come ashore. Mr. G. M. Rennie, second engineer of tho Kittawa, has signed off, and has been replaced by Mr. A. A. Douglas.
The"Ngakuta is at present in Lyttelton, but is eipected to get away from there to-day with a cargo principally of stock for Wanganui. The NRahero was loading at Greymouth for Wellington yesterday, and should get here to-morrow. Tho Ngatoro was in Now Plymouth yesterday. Her movements are uot known locally. The Ripplo is now duo here from Akitio, Gisborae, and Napier to-day, with e. cargo of wool. It is possible that she will get away to-morrow on tho return trip. The Blenheim left here last evening for Puponga, and is duo back about Thursday. Her movements after that arc not yet definite. The Echo is duo here to-day from the East Coast. Sho should get away to-day for Kiritona with a cargo of cement.
The Kapiti for Wanganui, the Kapuni for Patea. and the Orcpuki for Nelson and Nydia, Bay, are all set up to leavo here to-day, provided they are worked. Dalgety aud Co. adviEC that space must be arranged for at their offlco before cargo is taken to the wharf for shipment, otherwise there may bo difficulty in getting it shipped on arrival at the wharf. Thrco hundred and twenty-six saloon and one hundred and seventy-five steerage passengers booked passages by the Maori for Lyttelton at the company's offices yesterday.
