NOTES ANB COMMENTS

IBr Glencob.l : Nominations for nil events at the Nelson meeting, and entrance for the Trial Stakes close with the secretary (Air. J. Glen) at 9 o'clock to-night. The Nelson Cni), nine furlongs, U worth 300 sovs., and the Bedwood Memorial, one mile and a quarter, carries 200 sovs. The Waikato trainer, R. Hannon, is nearly invincible at country meetings in the Auckland Province. At Taumariinui he started two horses twice, and Jiad three wins. On Saturday one of these, Mill o' Gowrie, a dnal winner at Tau- ■ marunui, also added a couple of victories to her credit at Te Kuiti. While at riding work at Wingatui on Tlmrsday.G. Harrington, an apprentice attached to T. Stevons's stables, received a bad fall through his mount, Eedowa, striking a trestle. Outside of a- eevci-e shaking the lad received no damage; Kilboy had his first gallop for a long time Bt Eiccarton on Thursday last, ■when, in company ivith the Melbourne Cup winner, Sasanof, ho was sent five furlongs. Tho pair ran poor time, but pulled up sound. It haß been decided to relieve KUrea. of her southern engagements. She was a trifle sore after being raced on in

the Middle Park Plate, and as tlio speedy Kilbroney _filly has hud her full share of work, tnore is no desire to prejudice her future usefulness by racing her futthor just at present. Tho defection of Kilrea from tho Dune<lin Champagne Stakes will remove olio of the most favoured candidates, "but tlio field for this classic event will be fully representative • of Canterbury. Gamecock and Sisyphus will probably represent Chokoborc Lodge, while Ample will be started bj Mr. G. L. Stead, and on account of the good form this Hokeby filly lias shown recently is sure to bo well supported. Tho YaUfhurst team for Dunedin'will consist of Wishful, Ample, Kocsinn, and Plymouth. They went south on Saturday. Wishful is tho stable's Cup candidate, and his chances are favourably regarded. Ample will contest tho Champagne Stakes, Koraian will carry tho yellow jacket in sprint events, and Plymouth Will race over hurdles. The lastnamed, who was imported from Australia la6t season, has yet to score a. win, but his prospects of success at Wingatui are good. ' The Lethe mare Purse-filler, who was rating well at the end of tho last season, but has, been off the scene for soino months, recently got entangled in a wire fence, and will not be seen out again for some time. K. Brooks, who accidentally shot himself at Yaldhurst last week, was a promising young light-weight attached to E. O'Donnell's stable. Sweet Corn in M. Hobb'g etablo has not done a great deal of work since tho Wellington meeting, and will not be required to fulfil her engagements at tho Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting. Peronilla, who has been a bit of a disappointment for somo time past, is to be given a trial among the jumpers'. Bidden by R. M'Sevehy, she was schooled twice over tho pony hurdles at Eiccjirton on Thursday. She ran off at the second obstacle, but on being' taken back, she cleared the two hurdles the neit time like a veteran.
