CITY COUNCIL ELECTION
LABOUR CANDIDATES. ■ A ballot of labour organisations affiliated, to the-Labour Representation Committee was taken on Saturday to 'select eight candidates to contest seats on tho' Wellington City Council at the April elections. The eight selected arc: Messrs. E. Kennedy, C. H. Chapman, H, Holland, , J. M'Kenzie, J. Hutehison,J.R,ead,W. Wilds, J. Glover. Mr. E. Kennedy topped the poll. THEFT OF A MOTOR CAR JLVNCOMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. By Telegraph Special Correspondent. Hawera, February 10. A case of particular interest to Wellington, was heard at the Hawera Magistrate's Court, when Norman Kraetzer, on remand,.was charged with stealing a. motor-car, the property of the Fluenzol Proprietary Co., Ltd., on December 19. Cecil Watson Palmer, managing director of Fluenzol Proprietary, Ltd., Wellington, said the accused had been in tho employment of the company as [ travelling representative since July 16. The-firm purchased a car at £200 for his use on. November 16 last. Tho accused left Wellington with the car on December 19 on business connected with tho firm, and on December 25 witness received a letter from the accused at Palmerston North, stating that tho car was running' beautifully. Witness later received a postcard from the accused at Wanganui, when he again stated that tlio car was going all right. On January 25 accused returned to Wellington,, and when questioned about the car said it was in agarngo at Hamilton. Accused came into the office again next .day, and suggested that he should go to the South Island to transact business instead of returning to Hamilton, saying that he had arranged for the ear. to be sent on to the South Island. . In consequence of further inquiries, \nt'ness laid an information, and a warrant for his arrest was issued. Upon returning to Wellington witness received a communication from the accused. -Accused had absolutely no.authority to sell the car. which was the property of the Fluenzol Proprietary. Accused never' accounted to the iinn or to witness for the proceeds from tho sale of the car, and did not tell witness of the sale until after the information had lieoii laid, Acc'ised had no interest in tne car, which was now in tho possession of Mr. H. Priestley, of Kaponga. It was a Clark-son car. Horace Priestley,' electrical engineer, said he saw an advertisement in The Dominion, which he answered. He received a reply from N: Kraetzer, and as the result of negotiations the car was brought by the accused to Kaponga, -where witness purchased it. Witness received a three-months' guarantee from the accused. Accused, who pleaded guilty, was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence. j
