A Press Association message from London states that the Duke of Norfolk is seriously ill. The Hon. A. M. Myers, who lias been in Auckland, is returning to Wellington to-day. A Press Association telegram from Christchurch records the death, of exPolico Inspector Soberfc J. Gillies, aged 67. He retired in 1911. The Bev. J. M. Thompson, M.A. honours) has been appointed first assistant in Scots College, AVellington. He will also be the college /chaplain. Sir James Wilson, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, lias received advice to tke effect that Dr. Putnam, prinoipal medical officer to the board, will return to Palmerston North about the middle of March. The return of a letter endorsed "Undelivered through capitulation of Kut," also endorsed "Prisoner of war," indicates (says a Press Association telegram from Auckland) that Lieutenant Edmund' _Mousley, of Auckland, is a prisoner in Turkey. Lieutenant Mousley was a member of the staff of King's College. At a gathering of the Mount Cook Police Forco on Saturday evening a •presentation was made to Sub-Inspec-tor Dow, on the occasion of his promotion and transfer to Lambton Quay Station. The presentation was made' T)y Sergeant Murphy, and consisted of a silver-mounted umbrella, a case of silver-mounted pipes, silvermounted tobacco pouch, 'and a cake-dish. Complimentary speeches were made, and Snb-Inspcctor Dew suitably responded. At tlio conclusion, hearty cheers were given for the recipient. Members of The Dominion commercial staff on Saturday afternoon bade farewell to Q.M.-Sergt. W. G. Fleming;, •who is going to the front. Farewell gifts from the staff consisted of an auto-strop razor and case, suitably inscribed, a case of pipes, and tobacco pouch. Mr! N. Advice lias been received to the effect that Mr. Leslio F. King, third son of Mr. W. J. King, of Whetukura, Hawko's Bay, has been drowned at sea. About four months ago thodcceased joined the Liverpool liner Oloudra, which recently struck a rock near Baltimore, Cork. The deceased was born in the Poverty Bay district. The funeral of Mr. F. B. Potherick, soli<jltor 2 who died suddenly on Thursday Sight, took place on Saturday afternoon in the Sydney Street Cemetery. A service was conducted at the deceased's late'residence, in "Willis Street, by the Rev. Dr. J. Kennedy Elliott; who also officiated at the gravesido.
