SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON'S STORY
The relief ship Aurora, conveying the rescued members of Sir Ernest Shackleton's expedition, reached Wellington from M'Murdo Sound, Ross Sea, early last evening. The ship was in the stream soon after 6 p.m., and an informal welcome was given to Sir Ernest Sliackleton, Captain J. K. Davis, and the othor members of the expedition by the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. .T. P. Luke), the Minister of Marine (Hon. W. H. Herries), and other gentlemen who went out to the Aurora in the Karaka at 7 p.m. Hearty cheers were given for the expedition as the Karaka ran alongside, and the Mayor, from a precarious stand on \the bulwarks, spoke a few words of welcome to Sir Ernest Sliackleton. Half an hour later tlio Aurora berthed at the ferry wharf, where a very largo crowd of Wellington .'people cheered heartily. The rescued men, after two years' absenco from civilisation, were glad to slip- ashore as quickly, as they could. Many members of tfte expedition had friends in the crowd, and the Aurora was-soon left to the care of tho watch. 1
