Lewis, of Thorndon, who has done a great deal to further the interest of boys in learning swimming, recently returned from Sydney and Melbourne, where lie was occupied in simi-lar-good work. Mr: Lewis'is the'in-' ventor of an applicance by which the art of swimming cau be mastered in' a short time. This invention/ which is quite simple, consists of two hollow balls' made of fino tin. Tliese are tied together with a strap, and the ''float," as it is called, fits under-the arms. Before being allowed to uso the "float" for first time, the boy is instructed in'swimming,;; by what'is termed"land drill." This drill acquaints the beginner with the proper use of the arms and legs when in tho water.- After a few lessons in tho drill the boy entors tho water, where ho-repeats the drill and is Icepfc above water by-tho floats. It is not any great length of time before the swimmer can keep afloat without tho use of the appliance. When 33T. Lewis was tu Australia ho gavo several demonstrations, and taught boys to'swim by this method, and several Pleading swimmers approved highly of tho idea. Mr. Lewis is willing to givo demonstrations, locally to 'school teachers and other persons who have largo numbers of boys in their charge. Wrong thinking caused tho war, and only right thinking can bring it to an early finish, consequently Wellington grocers are to be commonded for giving the "Thinker" Note-book free with every Is. package of "No Rubbing" Laundry Help—Advt.
