WREOK OF THE KOXA. Co-blo advice on Tuesday from Adelaide reported the total wreck of the barque Koua, a ves-Eel of 679 tons. at Kangaroo Island. With reference to this tho Auckland "Star" says:—Tho Kona.put into Auckland last May in a leaking condition, while pu her way from Newcastle to tho Hawaiian Islands with a cargo of coal. Her ooal was disposed of at Auckland, and after docking the vessel went back to Newcastle. What her subsequent movements were does not appear, but probably she re-entered the trans-Pacific trade.

I Quite a large fleet of Bailing ships have, been fixed to load at various Australian ports for New Zealand, iivo of them being listed for loading at Newcastle, says the Auckland "Star." Four ships, two barques, and two barquentlnes are coming to Auckland, the Daniel (299 tons, (-■aptain Birch), the Laura (525 tons. Captain Schutee), the Kothesay Bay (659 lons. Captain Buown), and the Scnorita. (324 tons, Captain Whitton). All the four vessels have yet to sail, the Daniel, Laura and Senorit-a from Newcastle, and the Kotheany Bay from 'Melbourne. The barque Manui-ewa- l.'-27 tons, Captain Holmes) has sailed from Newcoptle for Kiiipnra. with coal, and the Maroro ie al?o en route between these two ports, having left Newcastle on January 11. She is a scow of 200 tons, commanded bv Captain Robertson. The barquentine Wαnganui is to load at Melbourne tin's month for Wanganui. The Cathkit (ex Arrah-na-Pogue) was to loiul at Manning River for Whancarei, but recent advioen from Australia state that sh« is ashore at. Manning River, go that her sailing depends on the extent of damage caused by tho mishap. TJio Cathkit is now the property of Broadß, the well-known timber merchants. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. W. Riidd left, by the last Island steamer from Auckland to Suva, where he will temporarily act as manager lor the Union Company's office there. Mr. H. Barber, late of the Kowhai, is to join the Komata- as first officer in place of Mr. J. Hughan, who comes ashore- for orders. Mr. A. fllasson. assistant purser of tho Mamiikn, has signed off that vessel, and has joined the Rosamond as purser. Captain Vint, who came over in the Manuka as extra first officer, has come asliore for orders. MORE NEW 'STEAMERS. It is reported that the San FranciscoHonolulu Steamship Company have placed an order with tho J. H. Barnes Company, of San Francisco, for the building of two wooden cargo steamers of about 4t)CO tons eaoh. A shipbuilding plant is to be established lor the construction of these vessels. CAPTAIN-SOOREB A PRISONER OF WAK. When the steamer Stnnhallen was sunk by a submarine last August, much anxiety was felt for the safety of Captain T. D. Scorer. Cablegrams were dispatched from Sydney to London, inquiring as to the fate of the captain, but no reply was received, and grave fears wore entertained tor this woll-known mariner. Last- week, however, a. postcard was received from Oaptain Scorer, stating that he was a prisoner of -war at Salzerbad, and that he was having a very strange and novel experience, and while thus domiciled was devoting his atteution to the 3tudy of languages'. A strong southerly -wind blew down- the Lyttelton Harbour on Tuesday morning, and made it particularly difficult for vessels to berth. The Maori had a trying time. She arrived at the Moles at about 7.15 a.m., and would, under ordinary circumstances, have berthed at 7.30, but the wind caught her broadside- on and made it impossible for her to enter. Oaptain Manning had to back her out ana run down tho harbour, and made several attempts to enter before ho finally succeeded at 9 o'clock. The south-west galo was first encountered at 4 a.m.. but it did not materially interfere with the vessel's progress until she reached the Moles, where she arrived very .little behind her usual time. • The Orepuki is due here from Lyttelton to-morrow morning, ;>nd is timed to leave at 4 p.m. to-morrow for Nolson and Nydta, Ba-y. The Victoria, left Auckland at 6.30 p.m. mi Tuesday with 430 tons of cargo for Wellington. Sim is due here to-morrow morning, and loaves on Saturday at 5 p.m. for Sydney, Tia northern ports. The Breeze is expected here from Wαnganui some time this morning. She is expected to get eway for Lyttelton. Tim-β-rii', and Dunedin to-night. No -word of her having left Wanganui was received last niglit. The auxiliary schooner Houto -was to have left Kaipara on Monday for One'hunga, whero she will load a cargo of scrap iron for Dunedin. The Hinemoa- is at present on a visitto Jackson's Head. Karori Rook, and The Brothers. She should set in here again on Friday morning. Owing to delay in New Plymouth the Corinna does not now pret hero until Friday morning from that port. The Regulus has fineished overhaul, and has come off the slip. Bhe leaves here Thn Manuka was to have left Lyttelton at 11 p.m. yesterday. She ig timed to leavo here for Sydney direct at 5 p.m. to-day. It is honed to ei>t, tho Kamo and Kini away to-night for Groymouth. The Kamo loads back to Wellington, while the Kini londs and proceed? on to Dunedin. The Komata, which left hore last evening for Westport, loads at that port for Auckland. The Kurow and Kitt-awa were both tn. hsivn left Nanier at 5 p.m. yesterday for Wellington.
