RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK COMMISSION
'AUCKLAND BUSINESS CONCLUDED. ' By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 7. The Royal Commission on the rolling stock of the railways concluded its local sitting to-day. The evidence collected from officials and employees in various Departments generally went to show tliat the rolling stock had been greatly improved during the last three years. A critical examination centred 071 the bearing and draw-bar springs of vehicles, the evidence adduced being to the effect that the two-piece springs used on the wagons were superior, to whole springs. It was pointed out that there really was a shortage of materials, and that tho painting work was well maintained. The Commission inspected the repair workshop at NcwmnrWet yesterday, and the local yards to-day. The Commissioners will proceed to Frankton and Hamilton to-morrow for inspections, and to Wanganui next day for a sitting of three days. Sittings will subsequently be held at Napier and Wellington. Brief stays, if possible, are to bo mado at Pnlmcrston North and Masterton.
