THE CASES HEARD YESTERDAY

The Third Wellington Military Service Board held a brief sitting yesterday. Tho board consists of Messrs. A?. H. S. Moorhouso (chairman), A. O'L. Considine, and M. J, Mack. Captain Baldwin is the military representative. Exemption for Charles W. Haddon was sought by Dr. Knight, ivho employs him to work a 200-acre farm. Haddon was married to a woman who had fivo sons at the front. The appeal was adjourned till April 20, a,nb! exemption from service meantime -was granted. Alfred Loft, a shearer with 16 years' experience of the work, appealed on the ground of public interest. The appeal was allowed on the understanding that Loffc will be available for shearing next season, and that he will engage in useful rural work rnean-t-ibie. Tlio case of Percy Scott Isbister, third officer of the wrecked steamer Siaitai, was again before the board. The manager of the Union S.S. Co. stated that Isbister -was on another vessel now, and would be back in Wellington early in April. The case was then adjourned till April 9. Sydney Charles Lowe, farmer, South Karori, who had lodged an appeal, said he was willing to go to the war if he could be satisfied that there would be no trouble respecting the lease of the farm he ivajs working. The lossor, Mrs. Campion, was called, and snid she would reloas-o Lowe if she could , get an equally satisfactory tenant.i Tho appeal was adjourned till March 27, and it was mentioned that if the matter of tenancy is .not by that date arranged the appeal will be dismissed. -John R. Cole, journalist, who appealed on the ground that lie was over age, sent a letter stating that he was ill hospital, and his appeal -was adjourned for a. week. Claude William Adamson, a returned soldier, was exempted on the ground that he was not a reservist. The appeals of George and James. Dennis, who wore before the Board on Tuesday, were dismissed. The appellants ]iad appealed for business and family reasons.
