POLICE OASESi Mr. W. 'G. Riddell,, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, and dealt with the police cases. ,\_ For insobriety, one first offender^was convicted and discharged. Maud Granteu, against whom there were several previous convictions, was remanded for a week for .medical treatment, Thelnui Clothier and Dorothy Iloruierson were separately,- charged with being idle and disorderly persons in that tl'.ey had insufficient visible means of support, and were remanded for a week. Harold Bertie Granville was charged that during tho currency of a separation order under the Destitute Persons Act ho did trespass hy entering the _ house whero his wife was living; also with resisting Constable R. Henry wliilo in the execution of his duty, and, further, with wilfully damaging a constable's helmet", valued at 7s. 6d. He was remanded until to-day. < CIVIL CASES. Mary Fabian proceeded against Mary Lucy Grant to recover .£lO Gs. 3d., being the difference between 30s. per week which defendant had been paying and 375. Gd. per' week to which the plaintiff had raised the rent in respect to a dwelling known as 20 Waterloo Avenue. Mr. T. 11. Gill appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. C. W. Tanner for defendant. Tho defendant denied agreeing to pay tho increased rental, and further pleaded the War Regulations. After evidence tho case was adjourned to February 15 for the parties to obtain a valuation of the property. DEBT CASES.
