An American • manufacturer lias recently placed oil tlio market a line of slices for electrical workers which are made to withstand electrical pressures up to 20,000 volts without harm to the wearer. The shoes contain 110 cement, and have no seams, but arc vulcanised into a solid pieco under high pressure of aluminium moulds. A novel feature of the shoe is that the soles are white, and under the surface is a layer of red rubber. When the sole had worn down to a point where the red is exposed, it is a sign to the wearer that a new half-sole should be immediately secured in place. Last year in England farmers were able to get seed potatoes at £6 a ton. This year, owing to inflated potato 'prices, they have to pay £16.
