The Hon. Arthur M. Myers, Milliliter of Customs and Munitions, left Wellington by Friday night's express for Auckland, where he will be remainiuj; (or a few days. Mr. A. H. Miles, maanging director of Murray, Roberts, and Co., returned from the south by the Mararoa on Saturday. Mr. W. Perry, o f Mnslerton. has been elected a member of the Board of Agriculture, as tho representative of tlie agricultural and pastoral associations iii the .Wellington provincial district. Sub-Lieutenant Laurence W. Bell, son of Mr. 0. D. Bell, ex-Mayor of Rangiora, was drowned through, tho sinking of the auxiliary cruiser Laurentic. Oil the outbreak of the war he was third officer of the Waipori. Ho enlisted and put in five strenuous months on Gallipoli as a stretcher-bearer, subsequently seeing service in France, and eventually being appointed hy the Admiralty to the Laurentic. Captain-Chaplain J. D. Smith has* reported for duty at Featherstou Camp and will proceed abroad attached to the Twenty-first Mounted Rifles. A well-known New Zealand settler. Mr. Charles JElgar, of "Fernside," Featherston, who was in the Old Country at the outbreak of tho war, baa (says our Featherston correspondent) been prominently connected with vinous patriotic efforts. Of late he has been kept busily engaged for four or five days each week as head of the Red Cross organisation in London and Ibe wounded poldiers as well as their moro fortunate confreres are receiving every possible attention. Captain.-Chaplain H. F. Peat (Methodist) has reported for duty at Featherston. '
