MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. W. G. lUddoll, S.M., presided over a short sitting of the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning. For insobriety, Alexander Hayes was fined 205., William Condon and James M'Mullan 10s. each, and John Symington ss. George Adam Hesse appeared on a charge of having, in a railway carriage, used the following language, calculated to interfere with recruiting: "A man is a— — fool for going to the front. lam a German, and you have never gained an inch on them yet. You are a lot of fools to fight." Accused, pleaded guilty, but said he had not meant his utterances to be taken seriously. His Worship: "Well, you should keep your mouth shut, if you don't. want to be taken seriously." Fufther attempts by accused at explanation were cut short by the Magistrate with: "Fined £3, in default fourteen days."
