SOCIAL ANB PERSONAL Children's Fete in Hobson Street. . _ A very pleasant and successful func- ■ xion was the little bazaar in aid of ' funds for Mr. Pearson's Blind Institute, which was held on Mrs. Riley's tenuis ' court yesterday afternoon. Master lan M'Ewan and little Miss Hilcy and . *their young friends, with tho help of • a few adults, managed tho whole affair, which bogau in quite a small way at first. The day being very warm and • quite windless, it was possible to lay all the dainty articles on tho tables with no fears of casualties from win'' or weather. _ Tkoro was a fancy stall where charming chubby little Kewpies, swathed in ribbons of every colour, found a ready salo, nearly overy ono was decorated with a lucky kowpie. A crowd round a jaunty little red and wlute striped tent proclaimed tho fact that ico creams were rapidly melting away. Tea, accompanied by homemade cakes and scones, was attractively served, the tea was_ hot, tho cakes delicious. The magic wheel was thronged by numbers of boys and girls;' and adults, too, in fact all those who find an added attraction in any element of chanco. Towards the end of tho afternoon tho fow articles which had not been sold were to tho maeic wheel-and quickly disposed'of. _ Tho lucky parcels were sold out immediately at Is. each, and contained many pleasant surprises. The produce stall ' had fruit, cream, butter, and other dainties for sale. Altogether the efforts of tho children and their friends resulted in the sum of £100 being available for the funds of the Blind _ Institute, which must be vory gratifying indeed to everyone concerned. Mrs. Graham Robertson and Miss Hay ward, of the Hutt, motored on Thursday to the military, tournament which was at. Solway. Mrs. H. Hall and family, and Bishop Sprott and Mrs. Coleridge, and Professor and Mrs. Rankino Brown, who have all being staying at Muritai, have rc- ■ turned to town. Miss Harvey spent a day in Wellington on her way to Christchurch. Mrs. Austin Elder and Miss Elder, who have recently left New Zealand, intend to stay in England about six Mrs'. Elder has gone Homo to bo near her sons, Capt. Elder, and Lieut. Elder, who are on active service. Mrs. Bloomfield, of Auckland, is " visiting Wellington, and Miss Gome, also of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. Duthie. - Mrs.- Sidney Brandon is the guest of Mrs. Wallaco Mackenzie, Upper .Willis . Street . .. .'■. of Wangairui, who came to town for tho Red Cross meeting on Tuesday, has beeu staying at tho Midland Hotel. She returned to Wangamii yesterday. Tho president, Mrs. (Dr.) Mirauis, and ladies of the Potone and Hutt Plunkct Sewing Guild wish to .thank tho girls of the Pctono District High School for tho splendid parcel of baby clothes, made according to tho Plunkct patterns. Tho highest praise is given for the beautiful work'put into them. This society works for tho relief of local cases of necessity, _ tho caro' of our'babies libing a patriotic work of tho first order. Health of Women and Children. Tho monthly meeting of tho Royal N.Z. Society for the Health of Women and Children was held at 3 Courtenay Place on Wednesday. Present: Mrs. Algar Williams . (in the chair), Mesdames Kirk, Burd, Ward, Cook, Corrigan, M'Lcan, M'Vicar, Chapman, S. Kirkcaldio, Ponsonby, Winder, and Richardson; Misses Barnett and Kirkcaldic.
